THIMET® 20-G is a restricted use pesticide designed specifically for use on sugarcane in Louisiana. The active ingredient is Thiamethoxam at a concentration of 20% by weight in a granular formulation. This product is intended for application at the time of planting to control wireworms. It is applied using either the Lock 'n Load® or SmartBox® Closed Loading Systems. The label specifies that the product should be applied at a rate of 19.5 lbs per acre and must be incorporated into the soil. For effective control, the granules should be applied in a 10-12 inch band on the seed piece, and the planting furrow should be subsequently filled to ensure proper placement. In the event of crop failure, the label allows for immediate replanting, provided that the treated fields are not replanted for a period of 9 months following the initial application. Because of its toxicity profile, this product is restricted to use by certified applicators or those under their direct supervision.
